Original and poignant,The Year I Met You will make you laugh, cry and celebrate life.
A former colleague took ‘Gardening leave’ for one year, and I found this term to be such a contrast with her corporate life that it inspired this story. I couldn’t imagine this woman not working for a year, I couldn’t imagine her not wearing a pin-stripe suit, I couldn’t even imagine her having a garden. I wanted to write about a character, who was so wrapped up in their career that when that was taken away they discovered they were unable to cope with everyday life and didn’t know what to do with themselves. In this story Jasmine literally needs to root herself in the earth to come to terms with losing her job. Broken up into 4 parts, a season per part, her journey and growth is mirrored in the changing of the seasons. The darkness of winter, the hope of spring, the growth of summer and the maturity of autumn.
